Where is the best pheasant hunting in the Eastern SD area?
« on: September 26, 2007, 03:43:32 AM »
I used to see tons of pheasants on highway 25 between DeSmet and the entrance to interstate 90. Unfortunately my COPD doesn't allow me to hunt anymore but I still pay attention to all the pheasants and geese that I see.

I haven't been around the area much this year so I don't know how the hunting looks but I suspect it should be even beter than last year. The winter wasn't to bad and I did see quite a few pheasants in April when I ws there.

Also it would be nice if some of you could post what you know about local hunting lodges so I can put the information up for people to find.

Who is going out for the resident opener.  I would have liked to taken the boat out to oahe and fished along with chasing a few wiley's on the corp's land above the dam.  Just not going to work out this year.  The wife has other plan's... :'(  Oh well maybe next year.

I plan on going tomorrow afternoon sometime.  I would say the best place to hunt in eastern SD is pretty much wherever your at.  I've been all over the countryside lately and there's birds everywhere!

Count looks good that's for sure.  Good luck to everyone.  Seems like every bird you see lately has been a rooster......... Be safe out there guys.  There is always too many stupid accidents in the first few days of the hunt.  Watch your gun swing and just for fun let a few go for the next time you come back to the field even if it may not be for years.   8)

What great weather for opening day of pheasant season.......  Tons of birds out there this year.  Shouldn't have any problems finding them guys.  We didn't hunt too hard, and got all the birds we wanted by midafternoon so we could still do a little road hunting.  We just drove home from the last field we walked and only were able to shoot 2 more to finish our limit, but could have shot our limit in the 10 mile drive.  I talked to a few guys when I was in town at 5 that were done in 3 hours over by Artesian, they said that there were 2 other groups done before them... Must be really thick with birds there too.  Good luck guys..

Heh, one more easy winter and spring and babies will be able to get their limits with a dart gun. Pheasants were always my favorites to hunt.

Glad to see everyone is doing well.
