Bow Season
« on: September 25, 2006, 08:27:17 AM »
Did anybody get a good start to the bow season? I know that Saturday was a little wet, but Sunday had to have been a great day for hunting. I didn't get a chance to go out, but I hope somebody did.

By golly, I had a pretty good start to my season.  I went out Sat. afternoon and had a 145 gross 5x5 walk too close to my stand.  Thank goodness I still have a couple doe tags to fill, I'd hate to completely end my season so early.  Good luck to all.

Congratulations on the kill!!! It seems like the bucks are moving early this year and acting quite different than in the past years. I have had a couple of guys tell me they think the pre rut has started. I had to reassure them it's not but they are feeding before the October lull! If we could predict deer, everybody would be doing it and it wouldn't be any fun anymore. I really do think the constant movements of cold fronts passing through do have the deer riled up though. I am almost disappointed it is supposed to be so nice this weekend and into the 80's for temps.

I'm kinda new to this bowhunting but as far as the rut goes I can tell you that the mule deer bucks are still together.  At least they were out by Pickstown.  Didn't see any whitetails.

Give them a couple more weeks and they won't be friends anymore. In roughly 2 weeks pre rut should start. You should start seeing scrapes appearing and rubs here shortly. This time of the year is usually dubbed the lull of the year. Whitetail bucks are mostly nocturnal and are centered on feeding until they can eat no more because of the upcoming rut. So very rarely will you see them come out of the corn fields or to far away from their food source.

Hi can you send me a form for December 2007 next year so I can get a deer tag for a doe in South Dakota.
