Thompson

Fished Thompson yesterday (1-1-07, brought the new year in right!!) didn't get out there for the morning tho ::), but made it out by midafternoon.  We fished the south end kind of by the shelter belt by the grade.  We caught 2 and missed 2 bites.  We saw a few other shacks out there and talked to them.  Sounded like some of the guys had been there all day and caught some walleyes earlier in the day, but none had limits.  I was kind of suprised that they had caught the fish midday, and they had one nice one about 30 inches.  Heaves were soft, but most of them had an atv or a snomobile, cuz it is a long walk.  All the ice we drilled was 14 inches, but I don't know how uniform and looks very cloudy and cracked.  Talked to the survey guy too yesterday said he measured one perch was over by the State Park and a few Walleyes, but no limits.

Good luck 8)

I caught mine between 11am and limited by 3 pm.  Gotta jig and stay away from the crowd.

I only found the south end to have a gradual slope - no sharp breaks or dropoffs.    I caught my fish in about 7-8 ' of water but saw fish caught shallower.  I think the south end is largely flat and the fish are on the move.  If you can draw them in and get them to bite you can do alright - but its real fishing, not hot and heavy.  I haven't fished Whitewood for about 7 years but it sounds like a similar bite except you don't need the sun.

The heaves are also a good place to start as long as you are careful.  The fish like the current they create and if they are open the warmer water as well as oxygen is there.  But like I said be very careful.
