While I never particularly fished for smallies I caught most of mine on about a 4 inch live minow and a 3/8th oz jig below a slip bobber while fishing walleyes and northerns off my dock. ;) No actual clue as to how you really fish for them.

well it kinda depends on the day ive caught em on countdowns, bass spinners, inline spinners, lindy rigs, and top water baits.  the funnest though it fly rod.  i usually catch them alot with walleye presentations but occasionally go just after the bass.  i would find a weedbed or a rock pile and just start trying things.

if the water is calm, top water buzzbaits are a blast.  In the fall, chubs on a simple hook over rock piles works well.

just got back from gettysburg and we cought prolly 40-59 smallies a day anywhere from .25lbs up to the 4 lbs range.  caught all while drifting or plugging oh yea slaughtered the eyes as well..... ;D
