Any of you guys know about car AC?
« on: June 09, 2010, 09:02:16 AM »
My damn ac developed a leak in my Pontiac Aztek. Problem is I don't know where it's leaking. Any of you guys got any good ideas on how to find and fix an AC leak? I don't own a blacklight. Any brilliant ideas will be very much appreciated as it's hotter than hades down here. 95 daytime 75 night time and humidity in the killer range. Taking it to the dealer is not an option as they want more than the car is worth. As usual at a dealership. ;)

Dye is the best, but a good leak detector would work to, There should be many reputable independent shops that work on AC I usually start talking people I know from the area who they trust. I work on auto's for a liveing.
Good luck.

Lol, ain't but 3 mechanics I trust and they're all 1K miles away from here. Finding someone who knows what they are doing, down south, is much harder. Even the dealerships are dumber than hell and looking to get all they can rather than solve the problem.

Looking more along the lines of DIY advice rather than advice on finding a mechanic.

Then you need to invest in a set of gauges, a good leak detector, a black light and glasses and some dye. the detector might find it and the dye might find it. good luck.
