another new guy
« on: May 09, 2010, 09:08:34 PM »
Hey just thought I'd give a quick introduction...  I'm from Sioux Falls, just bought my first boat. It's an old '77 Larson fish/ski money pit.  Used to go fishing at least 3-5 times a week but now I have a daughter that's almost a year old so the number of trips has gone down but the love of the sport has only gone up.  I've been checking out the site for a couple weeks getting ideas on how to fish from the boat and maybe where the fish are biting, but I started feeling like a creep reading everyone else's posts so I figured I better try to contribute.

I've been out the last two sundays on lake brandt trying to figure out the boat.. pretty tough with the wind we've had. I managed to pull out a smallie last week but it's been pretty tough.  I don't have a trolling motor or a real good place to mount one so I'm considering trying a trolling plate on my I/O to slow down my trolling speed.

That's all for now.. tight lines!!

Here's the new boat.. try not to laugh when you see me trying to back her in!! I'll try my best not to get in the way while I'm still getting the hang of it.  It's get's quicker every time...  I know it's not exactly an ideal fishing boat.. I'd rather have a Wallijig custom  :D but it's about the best I could get away with and still bring the family out for some fun!

Simple instructions for backing a trailer. ;)

Put your hand at the bottom middle of the steering wheel and then if you want the backend of the boat to go left move your hand to the left, if you want it to go right move your hand to the right.

If you get lined up straight and don't take your hand off the wheel you can't make to big a mistake as you can't turn the wheel to much. Keeping your hand on the wheel limits how much you can crank the wheel so you don't get the big swings to the left or right.

Lol, I've taught people how to paralell park too.

If you are having a hard time backing boat in what I would do is practice, practice, practice and practice.  Also for that what I did as a kid was take your boat to an empty parking lot and try to back it in two parking spots.  After a few times doing this you will get much better at it.

nice.. thanks for the tips guys. The bottom of the wheel thing makes a ton of sense, don't know why I didn't think of that!!

Just for the record I delivered pizzas for 5 years so I can parallel park with the best of 'em!  :D

Lol, pizza huh. Been there done that. Hey, I could parallel park my semi too, when I had to. ;) When I learned to drive there were damn few automatics, power steering was rare and everything was parallel parking.
