small mouth and large mouth fishing near brookings
« on: March 11, 2010, 08:57:51 AM »
Hey Guys: I am new to the area from Minnesota.  I am a bass fishing addict.  Please tell me about good bass fishing within 1.5 hrs of brookings.

Thanks,

i dont know exactly how far it is from brookings but last year we hit the bass pretty good out on enemy swim, they were mostly 14-17 inches most of the time, cochrane is pretty good in the spring but the bass arent neccisarily huge but there r some slobs somewhere in there it's just kinda hard findin them, but if u cant find the bass out there the u can catch the heck out of bluegills

Crappie-Man is right about Cochrane.  You can get them to hit casting plugs or jigs or I pull crawlers with a spinner and hope to hook a walleye or 2 and always seem to catch 5 or 6 bass using that method.  Works for bluegills and crappies as well.  Never know what you are going to catch there.  Perch and northern hit once in a while, too.  You can always catch something there.

Lake Poinsett is a good place to try for smallmouth bass.

Poinsette is my fav. place to catch smallies.  1/4 oz pink head with a white tail off prestrudes landing.  Getting a chubby just thinking about it :)

Thanks everyone!  How soon can I start fishing them?  How about lake Carthage, west of Thompson? What about Siani?  Please advise.

how are you catching the smalies on Siani?  Which part of the lake?  I was out there last summer and couldn't keep those stinking walleyes off my line :)

Your in South Dakota the fishing season is always open.  That's why all the MN guys come here to fish walleyes in the spring.
