Pheasant survival
« on: March 05, 2010, 06:20:48 PM »
Has anyone heard any reports on how the pheasants are faring so far this winter. I realize that the road counts haven't started but I thought that some of you might have some info on the winter kill so far. Also, what is the spring goose outlook for this year. My nephew, who is an avid waterfowl hunter, told me that they had a poor hatch last spring in Canada. Any words from anyone out there?

There has been some mortality on pheasants this year but i have been seeing a fair number of them out and about with this warm weather. Its hard to tell right now just how bad it was on them. May not be so bad because i know a lot of farmers didnt get corn fields out and they provided excellent food and cover for the birds. As for the snow geese they did have a bad hatch this year. There is a lot of adult birds out there and not many juvies. Decoy hunting is going to be tough this year but there has to be a way to outsmart those old birds.
