A new pending world record brown trout was caught in Michigan this year. It has officially been certified as a new Michigan state record and it is awaiting certification as the new world record. I believe that it weiged 41+ lbs. It beat the previous record by about a pound.
Another intersesting side story about the world record brook trout (American spelling). I used to fish the Nipigon river in Ontario with my parents (mainly in the 1970s and 80s). The locals around the town of Nipigon claim that,(according to old stories), the record holder, Dr. Cook, got very drunk, either after or during his fishing excursion that resulted in his world record. He actually didn't take his fish into town to have its weight certified until the day after he caught it. Most say that the fish would have probably weighed a pound or two more if he had weighed it immediately after catching it. (That fish weighed 14+ lbs and was caught, I believe, in 1920)-( I looked at the article and it was 1918 )
My mother also loved brook trout fishing (speckled trout up there) and landed two beauties. One was 7lbs. 1 oz. and the other was 5lbs. 9 oz. I have both of these fish on the wall of my cottage as pleasant reminders of my parents and the great family fishing memories that they blessed me with.
