Campsites Open for Memorial Day Weekend

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota state parks will have additional campsites operational for Memorial Day weekend.

Lake Thompson Recreation Area near Lake Preston is expected to re-open Wednesday, May 25, after a month-long closure caused by historically high lake levels. Campers will have modern facilities, and the boat ramp will be open for Memorial Day weekend.

During the closure, the park sustained extensive shoreline damage, including destruction of the lakeside trail. Visitors are encouraged to use caution in areas adjacent to the damaged shoreline.
