TopNotch:

I've broken several recoil ropes on my old strikemaster.  You should be able to disassemble and install a new rope relatively easily.  (Dont need to replace the entire recoil assembly,)  The first one I did took me all afternoon, I think the second one took me an hour, and the third about 15 mins.   ;D  The worst part is getting the spring coil back inside it's housing.  I'd suggest going to a small engine mech and getting some recoil rope, much better than the walmart rope I replaced mine with the first two times.   :-\

I bought a new strikemaster about 5 years ago, and havent had to put a new recoil in that one yet.  I used to ice fish a lot more I guess....  ???

Good luck.

my auger is brand new, only used last winter.  i fish a lot though.  and it is actually the housing that is cracked where the recoil bolts on.  thats why i need a new cover because there is no way to fix it, ive tried many different things and they only work temporarily before the whole recoil gets cock eyed and stops working.  its pretty frustrating, shouldnt happen witha new auger but somehow it did.  thanks for the reply though

Not sure if you tried this or not, but depending on the cover material, you could either patch it up with fiberglass resin or hold the crack together with pop rivets and a metal bar/strap (but this is also dependent on the location of the crack).  If not, I think you are correct in needing a new cover.  Good luck.
Remember, I'm pulling for ya.  We're all in this together.

I see.  If I were you I'd get ahold of strikemaster on this.  If the auger is only a year old, even if it was a mishandling issue,..... I wouldnt be surprised if they took care of it for you.  I wouldnt want mine cobbled together either.  My luck, I'd be 1 mile into the waubay refuge, and thing would give out.   ::)

Good luck.

it sounds like the warranty wont cover it any more because i drilled a hole through the cover and bolted it on.  got me through the year but i just couldnt wait 2 months for them to send me a new cover.  you know how warranty goes.

In watertown here we have Rons small engine. He's the strikemaster warranty service and repair in town. If warranty isn't covering it I'm sure he's got plenty of old augers and parts laying around or at least a suggestion for you. He fixes everyones augers around here. My recoil rope broke as well. I took it into him and an hour later it was fixed free of charge. Maybe you could try calling there.(605) 882-3512
