Well, had good luck again. Got four keepers all under 20". Nice walleyes. They were biting fast, we lost alot of fish. One walleye that I lost was pretty big, but it found a rock to tangle up with right by shore. Managed to get two gators also, one of them was just over 6lbs. Just two of us went out last night. There was five of us the day before.

The guys next to us did good too, they kept five nice eyes, one was around 5 or 6lbs. They got two big crappies, and a 4lb smallmouth. Looked like a fat female.

It was a slow night for us last night. We managed to get 6 walleyes and 1 crappie before getting chased off the lake by mayflies. There were more mayflies out last night than i have ever seen in my life!

Mayflies bad? Lol, when I lived at Vantage Point they'd be so bad I mowed my lawn wearing my snowmobile helmet. They do fatten up the walleyes nicely tho.

If you can collect a few quarts of them, packed down of course, you can make your own fishing scent that walleyes will love. After you have them start by smashing them with anything with a flad end. I use a screwdriver handle.

Smash them as much as you can. Then add enough vegatable oil to make them like thin mud and let them set a few days. I put them in the fridge to sit. After a couple of days strain the mix with a cheesecloth into a clean container and use the mix like you'd use the small bottles of Dr. Juice.

The toughest part is finding enough to get a couple of packed quarts. I was lucky as I lived in MPLS at the time and the TV stations would almost always talk about the mayflies piling up on the bridges over the Mississippi and I would get them there. It works but it's a PITA. Lol, just another thing I learned from In Fisherman 25 years ago.

We took 6 home last night missed quite a few my buddy went to measure one on the tape on the top of the boat and lost about a 20 incher pretty funny, we caught one other one that was a little on the small side so I guess we could have had our limit.  We did the best when we got a long ways from anyone else was fishing.  Trying spots that haven't probably gotten much pressure yet.  When we tried the beaches around where the wader fishermen were pitchen jigs we just watched them catch fish and didn't have anything.  Was a great day to be on the water.  I heard a few people did pretty well from the grade the last couple nights as well.

Has anyone fished any of the water south of the grade lately?  I see there is lots and lots of carp in the shallow waters south of the grade.

I shot a few up on the north end where they opened it up with the culverts into the state park.  First time I have shot carp from the boat.  That was fun, can't put too many of them in the livewell though haha. ::)

I've never shot carp with a bow. Somehow seemed to easy to me as the damn things were all over the place. You guys doing it seem like you have fun at it tho. Just another of those things I wish I'd tried and never did. Got a few with the 12 gauge but I doubt that was legal tho. Why do dogs love to roll in dead, stinking carp so much?

Fishin was really slow on Thompson tonight. We caught two fish right away out from the oldham grade then didnt have another bite for about an hour so we moved to the north side where we picked up a few more smaller walleyes and one smallmouth bass. I talked to the game wardens a little bit at the landing and they said its the same story with everyone else tonight. Not many fish being caught. Down on the south end of the lake you cant even see 3 feet down and on the north side by the houses i could see about 7 to 8 feet down. Once the lake turns over the fishing should get really good. I hope!
