Thompson!!!!!!
« on: February 11, 2007, 10:18:03 AM »
Took off this morning. Weighed in a 8# 12oz walleye. They caught other walleye and some perch.
The folks beside them got into crappies big time.
Just south of Vantage Point- Dark blue jigs and a minnow.

I was out on Thompson all day saturday and only caught a few small walleyes and 1 perch. I got out there on sunday about 6 in the morning and right away started pulling up crappies and small walleyes. Once the sun came up the perch starting biting along with the crappies but the walleye bite was slow. When i set up in the morning i set up away from everyone by myself and by 11 there was a massive crowd around me. There were people driving so close to the shack i could have reached out and touched their vehicles and people drilling holes so close they could have honestly fished off the tailgate of my truck. Once the crowd moved in the crappies left and i didnt catch a crappie after about 1:30. I ended up with 16 crappies, 10 perch, and 2 walleyes. I stayed out there till about 7:30.

That sounds like when I was in Minnesota.  I asked a guy if he would like to drill inside my voyager.  He didn't like that.  What is the common courtesy rule for how far you should stay away.

It varies, but SD seems to have the largest "unwritten" distance rule IMO.

The crappies were all big, probably between 12 and 14 inches and the perch were anywhere from 10 to to almost 14 inches. Both walleyes were around 15 to 16 inches. My biggest crappie weighed in at 1 pound 7 ounces and was a male.

Unwritten Rule on How Close??    Here's my take...you should never drill close enough to carry on a conversation.

minnesotans are the worst about spacing they will follow you from hole to hole. but otherwise the unwritten rule is just dont be a jackass. you know how close someone gets to your shack b4 you start gettin pissed.

FYI, I have been fishing in MN most of my life and I have never had people fishing within ten yard of my house until I have started fishing in SD. I have had happen several times and each of them had SD plates.
