Smallmouth bass in lake sinai
« on: September 26, 2011, 07:44:30 PM »
Fished Sinai this afternoon.  Great day to be on the water.  Caught 6 or 7 smallmouth for every perch.  Have been throwing the bass back.  Decided if I keep perch and walleye, throw back bass ( and if most people do this)  the bass will take over the lake.  So kept my limit of bass.  I knew a few guys feed them to their barn cats.  Any suggestions on cleaning and cooking the bass. Or thoughts on if they hurt the perch and walleye population.  Thanks in advance for any tips.

The bass have no affect on the perch and walleye population. The small bass are actually a good food source for walleyes. They may compete a bit with them for food but in a lake like sinai there is a large enough food base to support them. The smallmouth are good eating as well. Clean them and cook them just like you would a walleye or a perch. You won't know the difference.

I fillet them just like a walleye and cut bones out and throw them in milk over night in the frig to get ride of fishy taste just like northern pike.  Hope you  will try.

Smallies and whiteys and pike are ALL good eats, just too many people give them a bad rap.  We grilled some LMB fillets with eyeball fillets few weeks ago and nobody could tell the difference, all the fish got ate!!  Dont be afraid to try them!

Was out there this AM.  Caught lots of smallies and a few small walleye.  I think i trolled 3/4 of the lake including the SW bay.  Managed one smallie that was almost 16''.  Somebody give a shout out when the walleyes start biting on the lake.  Used some shad raps and walleye divers, no live bait.
