Fishing at Brandt
« on: March 06, 2009, 07:11:58 AM »
We have a new member who signed up last night. Wants to know about fishing at Brandt as he wants to take his son out ice fishing for the last time this year. I know absolutely nothing about Brandt, lakes near it or what's caught so any info you can provide will be helpful.

Brant has its days. Some days can be good others not so good...as with any lakes. The best spots are out from the point on the south side or out in front of the shipwreck on the east side. Lot of nice perch crappies and walleyes in there if you can find them. From what i have been hearing the best bite is after dark.

Is the name of the lake Brandt or is it near the town of Brandt SD. What are the directions to get there?
Any help would be appreciated. Is it best to use a portable or can you access it with a small wheel house? Thanks

Brandt Lake is right north of Chester S.D.  I've had my best luck fishing over night.  Only caught a couple during daylight hours.  That could just be me though.

Is there a public landing? Any particular directions from Chester?

There is a public landing about 1.5 miles due north of Chester.  There is another parking area on the west end of the lake (go 1 mile north out of Chester, 2 miles west on a gravel road, and then 1/2 mile north).  There is another spot on the south west end of the lake, but it's not much.
Remember, I'm pulling for ya.  We're all in this together.
