Just so they could swim like they normally would. Depending on the size of the frog you'll have to let them have it for a minute or two. Also, be gentle casting them out as you can totally stun them.

ROTF, it's kind like doing a belly flop off the high board, to the frog. You only need to get them out 30 feet or so anyway. Maybe even less depending on the depth and the shoreline. A high hard cast can knock them out so try some soft lobs to get them where you want them.

When I was a kid we used to use frogs in the fall. It usually worked best in areas where the frogs were migrating from a slough into a lake. It's a seldom used technique anymore(that I'm aware of anyways) but my Grandpa and a lot of the old timers used to have frog boxes to store them in. I remember my grandpa and one of my uncles catching some pretty impressive strings of walleye on frogs.

Yep, it's an old farts technique for catching big walleyes.

That thought got me curious as to how many people in here have ever fished their own chubs and suckers to use for bait or even seined their own bait? At the prices for the size chubs I like in the fall it would pay well to fish big creek chubs or 8-10 inch suckers.
