Just returned from fishing on Lake Miltona up a little north of Alexandria MN. Christmas stuff with the fam today so didn't hit the ice but made it out on Saturday. Few walleye, sunny's, crappie's, couple bass and a northern--nothing big, kept 1 walleye and half dozen sunny's and crappie's. Was great to get out on the ice and get the lines wet but driving back this evening made me wonder what the ice is like locally here in SE SD. Saw a few bank sign's say that it was still 48 degree's out at around 6-630ish in Ortenville/Big Stone and I had seen one earlier and farther north that said 41 degree's. Talked to a buddy from Iowa on the way home and he said the GFnP had pulled ice fisherman off the ice down there on some lakes--think he said one was Okaboji but don't quote me on that. Anyone make it out this weekend and have ice reports? I haven't been ice fishing long enough to know what a day like today does to the ice this early in the year. Slush pockets? Or just a set back on getting thicker ice? Hope we get a good cold snap here soon to get us some good ice--was only 7-8 inches up on Lake Miltona--saw some smaller permie's on the lake but no vehicles at all other then 4 wheelers. Would have been a great day to be out ice fishing if it was March and we had a good 18-20 inches of ice to fish on.....
