30 inches of ice and I'm not so nice.
« on: February 29, 2008, 08:56:38 AM »
Hmmm, with that topic headline I may also be a poet. Nah, never happen unless it involves Nantucket.

Lol, I keep reading about the snow, freezing temperatures and ice depth and thank my lucky stars I'm not there. Although I would love to take a trip up to Lake of the Woods and do some ice fishing. Alas, it's to far to drive.

I was going to rub it in a little and post a couple of pics but they didn't turn out to well. I walked out into my backyard yesterday and discovered about a dozen dandelions flowering and a ton of little white flowers and little purple flowers in the grass.

All the gardening places have the usual stuff set out. Tomatoes, greens, etc. Now I know why I moved. No snow and I've only seen a film of ice over a couple of puddles two times.

While I may be laughing now, in a couple of months when it hits the 100s for days on end or when a damn hurricane comes you guys will get to laugh at me. We do have tornados in common tho. However no basements down here.

Now if I just had a house in the mountains to escape the summertime heat. ;)

Sounds like you have some creeping charlie and creeping jenny in your lawn.  A fall application of 2-4-D may help....but they are the hardest to kill of almost all weeds.  Unless the white flowers are clover, thats big deer food...dont kill it.  lol.  I think he is in LA.   The state not the city.  Hurricane country for sure.

Lol, no, not permanent but not a winter destination either. Decided to go on a long vacation as I can work anywhere they have a net connection. When it warms up I'll probably go to northern nevada and look for Opals. They have some places out there where you can hunt them but it's 75 bucks aday.

Like to get up to the Columbia River this summer and fish for monster walleyes too. Lol, this winter has been so nice it's not likely I'll spend another winter in ice and snow.

Don't know what the flowers are for sure. Not clover tho.

We've had the coldest winter in quite sometime.......broke several records here in eastern SD.  Guys are using auger extensions, propane use is up 15%, etc.  Hudson bay has put on more ice this winter than ever previously measured in one season.  Sure dont hear much from Al these days...  ::)

The following was on the local news this morning:

Cold Reception

Tuesday we told you about several areas around the planet experiencing record cold and snowpack — in the face of all the predictions of global warming.

Now there is word that all four major global temperature tracking outlets have released data showing that temperatures have dropped significantly over the last year. California meteorologist Anthony Watts says the amount of cooling ranges from 65-hundredths of a degree Centigrade to 75-hundreds of a degree.

That is said to be a value large enough to erase nearly all the global warming recorded over the past 100 years. It is reportedly the single fastest temperature change ever recorded — up or down.

Some scientists contend the cooling is the result of reduced solar activity — which they say is a larger driver of climate change than man-made greenhouse gases.

This is how I make my money. Just not from these sites. I suppose you could call me a consultant for many things internet with search engine positioning, minor marketing and linking being the main parts. Consultant is to lofty a term tho. I just have a lot of experience with a few things and now and then people pay me for it. ;)

HMMMMM..  Fox news!  They have a "unique" bend on global warming.  Their company line decries any mention of greenhouse gases or any possibility of human cause.  I tend to believe the non-partisan scientific crowd that believes otherwise.
