Ice Fishing Houses
Author: John Olson
When it comes to ice fishing, nothing is more basic to most
people’s minds than an ice fishing house. When you head out to fish
in the winter it is undoubtedly cold and for that reason a house
is a great way to enjoy more time on the ice. There are many
important things to consider when it comes time to purchase an
ice house and if you don’t give it the necessary thought it will
come back to bite you. The most important thing to consider when
it comes to ice shelters is the mobility factor. Are you an ice
fisherman that is wont to move constantly, or are you satisfied
being comfortable and fishing in the same spot for days, weeks
or even months? If you are a mover and a shaker and you have an
ice house that requires a ton of effort to move you are going to
hate having the thing even if it is the most comfortable house
imaginable. In this case, I would sacrifice some comfort for
ease of portability. A wheel house type structure likely is a
perfect fit for your fishing style or perhaps even a portable
ice fishing shelter. If you are the kind to kick back, drink a
few brews and shoot the breeze I would steer you towards a house
that affords a good heater and some great comfortable chairs,
couches, and places to sit. Cost always comes into the equation,
just remember that you often get what you pay for. IF you are
going to skimp and go as cheap as possible it almost assuredly
will not be as comfortable as you want and it likely will be a
pain to move/transport around. A 20% upper in price often brings
with it a ton of features, comfort and portability. Don’t be
afraid to shop around for a little while to ensure that you find
an ice fishing house that matches your personality and fishing
acumen.
