Carp Fishing – How to Catch Big Carp

Author: J Gregory

In the UK there is a new fishing sport that is has rapidly grown in popularity over the past ten years. Fishing for carp allows anglers to take part in a sport that allows the angler to bring in large fish that may weigh up to eighty pounds each. Even beginners have been known to land a modest fifty pound carp. Lakes are stocked and the fish are fed so that they quickly reach these large sizes. Angling for carp can use several different techniques to catch the large fish. Anglers must be patient and will need to have some excellent equipment due to the weight of these fish.

Since carp are noted as fish that are shy, they are even more difficult to catch than some more aggressive fish. Even anglers who are very experienced may find that carp are a challenge to catch. The fish dwell at the bottoms of lakes and eat almost anything they can find in their home waters. Like humans who eat without restrictions on diet, carp grow to be quite large. Just by eating the scum on the bottom of the lake, a carp may grow to be the biggest fish in the neighborhood. Although they eat almost anything, carp have some favorite foods that can be used in order to draw them out of the deep holes at the bottom of the lake.

Since these fish do not tend to maintain a territory and seem to live peacefully with most other fish that they do not choose for dinner, conventional spinners or lures are not useful when carp fishing. They just move right by and keep looking for a good smelling meal. Thus the bait you choose when fishing for carp can make the difference between failure and success. Live bait sometimes work, but generally is not smelly enough to entice the carp. To solve this dilemma, anglers often use boilies. Made from fishmeal and paste, this bait has a smell that humans find disgusting but the carp finds delightful.

What Is Ice Fishing?

By Nicole Roberts

Many people who are not from colder climates may be wondering what is ice fishing? Well, it is a sport that involves trying to catch fish from a frozen body of water. This can be a risky activity if the ice is not completely frozen. It must also be thick enough to withstand the weight of the fisherman. Before you can begin ice fishing, you must first create a hole in the ice in order to have access to the water below. Most people use a saw to cut the hole.

Most people that enjoy ice fishing bring along a stool to sit by the hole they have created. They must layer their clothing and wear a large winter coat to prevent hypothermia in some locations. Others may keep warm by fishing within a cabin that has been built on the ice. These structures are known as ice shanties, fish houses, and ice huts. They are generally used on ice fishing trips that last several days. They are typically created elsewhere and then brought in with the use of a snowmobile.

Those that asked the questions, what is icefishing, should know that special equipment is needed to perform this hobby. As mentioned, a saw is needed to create a hole in the ice. An ice auger or space can also be used if a saw is not available. A strainer is also a good tool for ice fisherman. This helps to remove any new ice that may form over the hole as the fishing is occurring. The rods and reels used for ice fishing vary greatly depending on the different fish the fisherman would like to catch.

Bass and Fronts

Author: Bryant

Weather fronts can determine whether you are going to have a great day out on the lake or a miserable. Knowing what fronts cause fish to do is a very important piece of information to have before you go out on the lake.

Cold Fronts

Cold fronts mostly slow down fish activity, but a few times a year the cold fronts could be a powerful weapon. When the first cold front hits you will see a increase in feeding. Baitfish start to move up to the creek mouths as the water cools and cause bass and other game fish to school nearby. This is a very exciting time to fish and these schooling fish can be caught on just about anything. You want to use a very active bait during this time because bass are bass will be attracted to anything moving rapidly.

In winter, you want to fish before a front hits. This is the greatest chance in the winter months to have a decent outing. Fish normally feed until the front passes and become inactive for a few days. Now it’s best to wait a few days after the front passes to fish, but if you must you are going to have to change your plan of attack. Flip n’ Pitch. Get out a small jig or worm, maybe even a jig and pig, and flip and pitch into brush. After the front, bass huddle in tight in thick brush and grass and don’t come out for almost anything. And plus, because of the colder weather you want to slow your bait presentation WAY DOWN.

Warm Fronts

These can also be either a good or a bad thing. Warm fronts affect fish differently in regards to the time of year. For instance, a long warm front in the spring or winter will boost feeding activity. But a long warm front in the summer will make the fish slow down. Heat is a good thing when bass fishing, but you don’t want too much of it. If it gets too hot fish become less active. That’s why fish love warm fronts in the winter or when the temperature is rising weekly. In the summer, a warm front will really hinder your potential to catch more. sources: Http://southernfishing101.webs.com

What Are The Best Lures To Use For Fishing

Author: Heidi Kelly

The search for the best lure is a never ending journey for the fishermen and this has seen a constant evolution and revolution of fishing gear and accessories over the years. The importance of fishing to feed people and the recreational value has seen the development of various lures specifically used for different fish species. There are many types of lures in materials used, size, shape, color and weight, of which many have been developed for specific fish species, however they can work across fish species very well. Here are some of the typical lures used for fishing.

One of the most popular lures you will find in a fisherman’s tackle box is the long casting or jigging lures. These lures are very good for shallow and not so deep fishing due to their lightness but they are perfect for trout, walleye, stripers, bluefish, tuna and pike. One of the most flexible of lures for a whole range of fish is the standard light casting lure. This lure can be made of any material with the wooden lure probably being better than the others due to the way it sits in the water and the hand painting of various colors. Although it must be said that plastic lures are quite good also. Common fish caught on these lures are bonito, crappies, albacore, bass, bluefish, and oho.

Important Tips on Ice Fishing

By Cleo Gib

The first tip is to be patient. The ice will need time to become thick enough for people to walk on. It’s imperative that you know how strong the ice is; some times it’s beneficial to measure the ice. If the ice doesn’t look strong enough to walk on please walk away. The last thing you want is other fisherman fishing for you.

The second tip of the day is to bring a tent out on the ice with you. Whatever type of shelter you choose is fine but you will want some thing to shield your shadows from the fish. Early in the year the ice is thin enough that the fish can see your every move, so when you walk out onto the ice be quiet and watch your step. Once you get to the location of where you will drill your hole, use the shelter to conceal yourself. The fish can see your shadow from above the ice, being in the shelter will solve this problem for you.

The last tip is to stay put. Early in the season the ice is to thin for you to lollygagger around, the fish are very sensitive and will know that you are there.

Once you pick your location and drill your hole stay there throughout the day. It can be tempting after a few hours of no bites to retreat to another location, but you must resist. Early on in the season this can cause you more problems as the more you move the more spooked out the fish will be. Next time you go ice fishing implement these tips and watch your line tug at you as the fish bite your bait.

Bass Fishing Rigs

I actually learned something from the bass fishing article. I never thought of using a gand hook rig the way he’s talking about. Then again I don’t fish for bass very often and know very little about bass fishing rigs. The clear bubble thing I’ve used to catch other fish on flies so that wasn’t new to me. Anyway, these are a couple of good bass fishing tips for newbies.

Bass Fishing Rigs

By Trevor Kugler

When most people think of bass fishing the last thing that comes to mind are bass fishing rigs. Instead things like plastic worms, the “jig and pig”, crank baits, and top water fishing come to mind. While all of these things should come to mind when you think about bass fishing, bass fishing rigs such as the two being discussed in this article should come to mind as well.

Below you will find two very effective bass fishing rigs, both of which can help any bass fisherman experience much more fishing success. The first rig, called the gang hook rig, is the best way to present live worms and other live bait as bait when fishing for bass. The second rig, called the casting bubble rig, is a way for spin fishermen to fish with an artificial fly in a very effective manner. The bottom line is that both of these rigs should be seriously considered, and should be a part of any serious bass fisherman’s repertoire.

Carp Fishing Techniques

I’ve never been much for carp fishing as in my opinion they aren’t edible no matter how you clean or cook them. Since I started this blog I’ve learned more about carp and carp fishing techniques than I thought was possible. There’s now ay I would have ever figured out that those stupid, ugly carp would bite on something with an orange juice scent on it. Other countries seem to love carp fishing and find it challenging and a lot of the carp information I read comes from England. If you want to learn some new carp fishing techniques the article is below.

Carp Fishing Techniques – Remember the Basics
By Roy A. Jones

Now that this is the sport you have chose it is wise to know some carp fishing techniques. Is this familiar? After casting the line out and waiting for a bite. There is a tap. Then then line pulls out. But all of a sudden it stops. Carp will readily take bait, they are notorious for spitting it right back out.

Try these carp fishing tips to improve your catch.

- Cast past the feeding area and then slowly drag the bait back into the area where the carp are feeding.

- Pre-baiting an area is a great way to improve the catch. This technique will get more fish to gather in the area where you are going to fish. That might become a popular spot if others find out the carp are feeding in that area.

- Try a hair rig instead of food. If carp don`t like the taste of something they will not bite it.

- Carp do eat off the waters surface.

- Attach a piece of corn or bread to the lure. Carp have a tendency to be picky, but the more they peck at certain kind of bait the less finicky they will become.

- Mix the sizes of the bait to attract more fish.

- Have some dough balls available for feeding the fish. This will also help to attract them.

- Use different baits. Switch the baits being used. Square bait can be a good choice for carp fishing.

-Thread the bait on a baiting then hook the hair loop.

- Dip foam in bait flavor. The smell seems to attract more fish. Orange juice works for drawing in fish.

- Use a float. This adds weight and helps to identify the line.

- Do not set the drag to tight. Also make sure there is enough slack in the line.

- Remember the good fishing spots and the places which were baited so you can return to fish these areas.

Accomplished carp anglers know that perseverance pays off. Follow these tips for many enjoyable hours on the water.

Northern Pike Fishing

I found this to be an interesting northern pike article so I’m posting it for your enjoyment. I agree with this guy, you don’t have to like eating pike to love northern pike fishing. Technically their name is Esox Luscious, which translated means, water wolf. That’s a very apt name for northerns. I’ve had more fun catching big pike than I have with any other fish. Although I do like the fight that smallmouth bass put up. There are many different ways to fish northerns and as long as you find the right lake conditions they can be caught any time of the year.

Northern Pike Fishing – Real World Fun

By Dale Mazurek

When we talk of Northern Pike Fishing it really is about comparing apples to apples. Before you even get started I know many of you will be saying how much fun you had with your salmon or other fish like that, Well today we are talking about Northern Pike Fishing and nothing else really.

If you are looking for a fish that is almost always biting then you are in search of the right species. These fish can be very aggressive and in reality they can also be very bossy. You see the pike think they are the king of the castle. The thing is in most cases this is true because they walk the walk and never shy down from a fight for dominance.

I really don’t care if you are down to your last hook in your tackle box. Chances are you wont catch perch or walleye with it but chances are very high that you could catch a pike with it. That’s just what these fish are about.

Even the smallest of pike will end up putting up more of a fight than most fresh water fish you will ever catch. I hear many people talk about their dislike when it comes to Northern Pike fishing. People are most definitely entitled to their opinion but my opinion says they are crazy.

People base their likes and dislikes on different things when it comes to fishing. So many people ignore pike and go after walleye and perch. Their reasoning is almost always taste. Many people including myself would rather eat perch or walleye then pike. That’s all fine and dandy but there are two very important rebuttals to that statement.

First of all cooked right there is nothing wrong with pike

Secondly you should only be keeping what you can eat in one meal so after that you really should focus on Northern Pike fishing.

You don’t need any training, much experience or much for tackle when going after this great lumbering fish. All you need is a rod, reel a few hooks and the desire to have fun and you will be off to the races.

When it comes to fishing for the most part it is about the fun. Oh I know there are people who fish for a living and others who fish to feed their families but we all know these are exceptions to the rule.

At the end of the day its about getting off the couch, heading down to your favorite fishing hole and par taking in some fun Northern Pike fishing,

When it comes to any fishing including northern pike fishing then you want to listen to what Dale has to say.

He has been fishing since he was 3 years old and feels like he can bring a lot of great quality information to the table.

Carp fishing with a baitboats

I recently decided to start carp fishing again and I was amazed just how much technology of carp fishing has come along since I last went. It was some time ago since I went but following a visit to the tackle shop it was great to see all of the new tackle that is used to catch carp these days. Bait alarms, advanced rods and reels, all of the new rigs, braids, end tackle it really has come a long way since I was a boy. The most outrageous piece of tackle I see was a baitboat. A remote controlled boat that takes out your hook and a handful of free offerings and drops it anywhere you like. Genius I thought, I must have one of these. Straight-away I got home and started doing some research on the different types of baitboats.

There are so many on the market it was difficult to choose which one was the best. I decided to go for the viper mk3 baitboat in the end as I liked all of the features that came standard. You can also buy add on fish finders and GPS for these baitboats. Hopefully the investment in a baitboat will prove its worth and give me some great carp fishing success. Time will tell.
