Northern pike fishing

Northern pike fishing should be good and you should be able to catch pike at one of my secret northern pike spots. Now that the water is back up on Lake Thompson one of my northern spots from around 2000 or 2001 is there again. The spot went away when the water went down but now that it’s back up and water is flowing under the bridge you should once again be able to catch big pike.

For these northern pike fishing tips you don’t need any pike lures. It’s so simple that anyone can catch pike with these techniques. If you’re one of the people who likes to go fishing for northern pike pay attention as this works at this spot. You can catch pike with it other places but it definitely works at this location.

Grab your northern tackle and head south of Lake Preston on county road 11 until you come to the bridge where lake >Whitewood flows under it into Lake Thompson. Just before the bridge there is a road to the right that heads up a small hill. Take that road but go slow. Follow the road as far as you can, maybe a block, if that and then you’ll have to park. It’s about a 30 yard walk to the northern spot.

Look where the old road was, it’s under water now but you can still find it. To catch pike here you want to bait up with a large smelt and then cast it to either side of the old road. Ideally you want it in the ditch on either side of the road. If there is more than one person fishing have the other person cast one of their baits on top of the road.

Oops, forgot to tell you the bait is smelt, big smelt if you want to catch big pike. Plus you need some Dr. Juice northern. You can read more about using this technique at Northern Pike Fishing and there are a couple of other articles there that will better explain how this technique works.

I’ve never fished this northern spot before 5 PM so take that into consideration when planning to fish this spot. It should be good at any time of day but I can’t vouch for that. This is lazy mans shore fishing at it’s finest. Cast out, sit down and get comfortable and wait for a bite. If you haven’t even had a nibble in the first half hour try casting your bait farther from the road bed.

With me, my ex wife and the two boys we had as many as 3 northerns on at once. That makes for a mad scramble to get all the northerns netted. Anyway, this was one of my secret spots for catching big northerns so go check it out if you want to go northern pike fishing in the afternoon.

If you don’t get any bites on the smelt you can give some pike lures a try but I’ve never failed to catch fish with the smelt and Dr. Juice. Good luck.
