The ice fishing seems to be slowing down a bit however the ice is still good on most Eastern South Dakota Lakes.
The reports from the fishing forum have been pretty sparse and it seems not much is happening in the ice fishing sport at the moment. Crappies may pick up soon but it appears nothing much else is happening.
You can read more about the ocal fishing reports at the fishing forums. Seems people were out filming for a TV show nut I have no clue what show.
More and more people seems to be getting into the spring snow goose hunting mode and as usual snow goose hunting is expected to be excellent again this year. I expect there will be plenty of happy goose hunters again this year just as there has been in the last 5 years.
Only ne problem if you are going to go snow goose hunting this year. The Lake Preston Motel is filling up fast but there are still a few rooms and dates available. I expect when the geese finally start coming in the remaining rooms will get sold out quickly.
With a limit of 20 geese per day I can understand why people come from all over the country to hunt SD Snow Geese. Actually they come from all over the world as the motle gets people from other countries every year.
So it appears the transition from ice fishing to hunting is starting and the next big theing will be when the ice comes off the lakes.
Good luck with your fishing and hunting.

Well, ice fishing hasn’t wound all the way down, yet. The ice is still good at Thompson according to the group on the forum. Looks like the fish are still biting now and then too. Of course that’s how ice fishing has always gone for me. Good days and bad days but mostly now and then days.
You know I always wondered why no one ever started a pool on when the ice would go off of Thompson. However that is not the same as when it opens up a few patches of water. It’s kinda fun to live at the lake and watch that lake sized chunk of ice get blown around.
The power of that moving ice sheet is almost unbelievable. It appears to be about like trying to stop a train. The bulk behind it just keeps coming. I wonder when the ice fishing will end and the ice will go out. Lol, remember global warming?
