At last it’s ice fishing time. All of the local lakes have ice on them, even Thompson. The ice fishing reports are saying anywhere from 3 – 5 inches of ice and that was yesterday and the day before so there should be even more ice by now. You won’t be able to drive on the ice this weekend but walking out will work just fine.
While there is now enough ice for people to go fishing it doesn’t seem as if the first ice bite amounts to anything so far. Small walleyes here and there with nothing going real good.
There is one report that the fish of all kinds are biting on Lake Madison but I’d like to see a couple of more reports to verify the ice fishing is good on Madison.
If the weather stays as cold as it’s been in another 10 days or so there many be ebnough ice to drive on. When that happens there will be lots more fishing reports as only the hardiest and the most in love with ice fishing are willing to walk around the lake looking for fish. Most want to drive to their spot and then set up there ice fishing house and fish in comfort.
It’s ice fishing time so grab your fishing gear and hit the lake. Ya can’t catch any fish sitting at home.
