It appears the ice fishing has picked up on the area lakes. Thompson is giving up some fish and people are catching some nice big walleyes through the ice.
Perch and crappies are also biting on the area lakes and last weekend was a pretty good weekend for ice fishing. Probably the best of the year so far. If the weather would clean itself up a bit ice fishing will get even better. All the snow and cold snaps do have an affect on both fish and ice fishermen.
There are also a couple of ice fishing tournaments comeing up and they look to be fun for everyone attending. North Shore bar and grill is having it’s very first ice fishing tournament and it should be a good time for all. The ice fishing tournament for North Shore will take place on February 20th, 8am thru 2pm and the Entry Requirements $10.00 per person. Call for registration 605-690-5729
Another tournament at Lake Byron. Lake Byron Fishing Derby February 27th 9am-3pm. 2 man teams. $10 per person. Open ice no shacks. Register with Dale at the Fowl Play Steakhouse West side of Lake Byron 1-605-352-3660 call or stop by for info.
