Going camping or on an outing far from the luxuries of civilization, like running water and electricity, may sound like fun, but some people just can’t live without their cell phones or laptops. If you want to travel to the remote ends of the earth, but still have the convenience of your electronic devices, then using a solar power pack is the way to go.
With a solar power pack you can pre-charge it at home so that it’s ready to set up when you get to where you’re going. Then simply set up the solar panels to keep the power pack charged. Some have solar panels attached to the unit, but many have detachable panels that you can face towards the sun.
With a solar power pack there’s no reason you can’t have the best of both worlds—the luxury of electronic devices and the serenity of the wild outdoors. So if you’ve been thinking of going somewhere but hesitate because of the lack of electrical power, get yourself a solar power pack and you can quickly solve that problem.
Many of the world’s most amazing lakes are situated in the Midwest. Be it Lincoln Lake or Lake Michigan, there’s always a chance to engage in a little fishing somewhere near by. All Midwest based fishermen have a personal fishing location, a must “go to” place. A Midwestern fisherman wouldn’t be carrying around a massive tackle box and wouldn’t jet around on a bass boat just to get the fish he would like to catch. In the world of shore fishing there aren’t many rules for people to obey…
We all are aware that it’s easy to befriend people in the Midwest. The people of the Midwest are renowned for being receptive and welcoming to strangers. Whether it’s a part of a lake that is inland, or the waterside of a little pond, enjoy the company of other fishermen. The fishermen of the Midwest don’t mind telling you their secret tips, which bait type he uses, which regions are good, etc. Equipped with this knowledge you assist other fishermen and are upholding the values of the Midwestern fishermen. One important courtesy to remember is that, while other fishermen will give you good advice, a responsible fisherman keeps his line several yards away from the next.
Journeys to lakes in the Midwest always carry a tone of excitement as the lake approaches. A little bit of evening time shore fishing is very therapeutic and a great way to spend time! When the lines are dampened, you may get some bites and you may spend a little time without any fish on the line.
For fishermen in the Midwestern area the priority is not the quantity of fish being caught in a day, rather the amount of time spent in water. If you do get a bite, you may spend a few extra hours in the day, as then you can tell what the fish want to eat and know they are looking for food. When water has a higher temperature it increases the likelihood of getting groups of fish looking for a worm or other form of bait. But essentially, that single caught fish can dictate whether the journey was worth it.
Since there are so many lakes located in the Midwest it is important for a fisherman to bring in comfort. Bringing a comfortable chair, and gear in case it rains (some of the best fishing times occur when it’s raining), and having fuel for a good fire are all excellent methods to help make the entire fishing experience more comfortable, so you can focus on not focusing, and on the chance to liberate your thoughts and to have some fun on the lake.
When the time comes to end the expedition, fishermen in the Midwest typically focus their minds for the last cast. Their self belief gets bigger with every cast during the trip and one final cast is never sufficient. When the last line is being thrown in, it may feel wrong; the line didn’t fall in the correct place or was not long enough, it didn’t cause as the last cast. The final cast could actually mean an extra 3 casts before the fishing session is actually complete.

Dory boats were named for the fish known as dories.
The dory boat is a small, shallow draft boat, about 15 to 22 feet long. It’s a light and versatile boat with high sides, flat bottom and sharp bow and stern. Dory boats are easy to build because of their simple lines and have been used in coastal waters and in the open ocean.
The only true defining characteristic of the dory is that it is planked with wide boards,It is the dory’s special method of construction, not its hull shape, that sets it apart from other boats and it’s what makes a dory boat so easy to build. Even the boat plans are fairly simple for everyone to follow.
The SeaEagle 370 is a lightweight and portable sport kayak that accomodates 3 persons. It only weighs 32 lbs. when deflated and easily fits in a storage bag.
What is so great about the SeaEagle 370 is the built-in skegs for tracking and speed. Inflatable kayaks need skegs to track across the water; otherwise, they will just weave and wander across the water. The skegs also allow you to go faster with less paddling effort.
SeaEagle Sport Kayaks feature:
- Extra thick 33 mil Polykrylar hull
- I-beam construction floor for extra rigidity
- Inflatable spray skirts
- Removable inflatable front and rear seat
- Front and rear rope handles
- Self-bailing drain valve (a handy feature on white water rivers or in ocean surf)
- Two skegs for tracking and speed
The SeaEagle 370 Sport Kayak has a 3 year warranty and is now on sale.
Alright…we’ve been asked about the submissions, and while we have received a few, we need a LOT more…!

When you look in any fishing catalog or walk into a tackle shop, you’re likely to see an enormous number of flies and it‘s easy to feel overwhelmed. Don’t. When you are starting out, it’s just necessary to realize that there are 3 major types of flies to look at. To begin, there are the lures, large flies tied to imitate small fish or simply to attract the curiosity of a fish. They are relatively heavy to cast and you generally work them back fast towards you. White, black, yellow, green, and orange are good starting colors. Lure fishing isn’t the most intelligent side of fly-fishing but it certainly works, especially when fishing stocked fish and not wild ones.
Consult a good Fly Lure Guide or talk to someone knowledgeable in fly fishing in your area for more advice on the various types of flies.
Dry fly fishing is one of the easier ways of catching fish on the fly, just because you can actually see the fish strike. A dry fly simply floats on the water’s surface and, with luck, imitates hatching flies which are one the fishes natural foods. So you tie on a fly that resembles the naturals, cast it where you see fish rising and, hopefully, they’ll be fooled into hitting it. Of course, in the realm of fishing, there will always be snags. So, how can you make your dry flyefforts just a little bit more successful?
Matching your fly Fish can be a bit picky when it comes to taking a dry fly. Using a nymph you’re likely to get away with not being quite as accurate with your imitation. So look closely at the appearance of flies that you see on the surface and try to match those as closely .is you can from your box. Carry a selection of Adams, along with CDCs, olives, and may-flies. These don’t only hatch in May or June; you can sometimes see them later in the summer. Daddy-long-leg patterns are also a good idea in late summer and early autumn.
Floatant Always use a floatant of one make or another to keep your fly sitting pretty on the surface. It’s better to spray or dab it on your fingers rather than on the fly itself. Then massage the floatant into the fibers of the fly.
Tippet It’s also a really good idea to make your tippet – that bit of line that leads to the fly – sink. You can read more about Dry Fly Fishing Basics at Lure Of The Day.
When you stop and think about it, there is no place on earth where a first aid kit is more important than on a boat. First off, boats are inherently unstable places to stand due to the principles of wave action and centrifugal force as the boat itself moves across the water.
Next is the fact that people tend to do potentially unsafe things in boats, such as drag other people around at high speed on the end of a rope, or whip fish hooks back and forth in an effort to catch dinner. It should not be forgotten that boats are recreational devices, which often involves the consumption of alcohol in large quantities.
Nor is it wise to forget that dying creatures with mouths full of large sharp teeth are often dragged against their will into the craft. Big bodies of water magnify and reflect sunlight, which leads to an increased risk of sunburn as do the usually skimpy outfits worn on boats. When looked at in that light, a marine first aid kit is equally as important as the boat plug that keeps it from sinking, or the life jackets that keep the passengers from drowning. You can’t live without one and marine first aid kits are definitely an item to have on any boat no matter what type of activity it is designed for or how many people it can carry.

One of the smallest, but most significant items of your terminal tackle, fish hooks have been in a constant state of development since our Stone Age ancestors fashioned the first versions from animal bones.
These days there’s a hook pattern for every aspect of saltwater fishing, from fine wire fish hooks for delicate baits, through to forged fish hooks for big-game fishing and the improbable looking circle hook.
Hook Sizes
The smallest hook you’re likely to need for saltwater fishing is a size 12 which is no bigger than the nail on your little finger, and that would be baited with a pinch of bread flake to tempt the mullet cruising around in harbours and estuaries. The system of grading hooks according the size isn’t entirely straightforward. Starting with the size 12 mentioned above, the sizing system dictates that as the hooks get larger, the numbers get smaller and only even numbers are used – 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 to 1.
Size 1 is still a small hook by saltwater fishing standards – suitable only for the smallest flatfish and their sprat-sized brethren. But going larger from here the system changes. The next size up is a 1/0, increasing in size through 2/0, 3/0, 4/0, 5/0, 6/0, 7/0, 8/0, 9/0, 10/0, 11/0 to a massive 12/0 shark hook.
Selecting the right size hook to use is a matter of matching it to the size of the bait you intend to impale upon it, and the size of the fish’s mouth you hope will enclose it. Remember that whilst you can catch both big and small fish on a small hook, you can’t catch a small fish on a big hook – which might result in catching nothing at all.
