Fishing Jigs

Author: Dwayne

Well, its summer time and that to me that means time to fish. I am going to talk about fishing jigs and make some key points to using them. There are hundreds of different types of jigs in all sizes and colors. We will talk a little about that later. A bonus when using jigs is that they are not just good summer time baits. You can use a jig at any time of the year and if used correctly can be a very efficient way to catch bass. First let me explain how the jig works. Jigs are meant to be worked slowly across the bottom, across structure and places that a bass may hide. Most bites will occur when the jig is falling or after a little jigging.

An important thing to remember about using a jig is that they are not meant to be retrieved quickly. Take your time when reeling in a jig so that they can twitch and hopped along at a slow pace, tempting the bass into taking the bait. When you are deciding to cast using a jig don’t be afraid to cast into heavy brush because the jig is amazingly snag-proof and it’s not very common to get snagged using the jig.

Lets talk about colors and trailers. The deciding factor with this is the time of day and if it’s sunny or cloudy.

As a rule, light colors are best for using on bright sunny days. Dark colors are best for overcast days or at night.

Water clarity and waves also affect how much light a bass will receive. You can also add trailers to your fishing jigs such as plastic worms or frogs. Whatever color the jig use the same color trailer. I wish you the best in your outdoor adventure activity!
