Towing And Trailering
When you get a trailer you are free to take your boat anywhere you want. Lakes, rivers, inlets or the ocean. A trailer lets you explore your own area and others even further away. With a trailer you get a totally new dimension in your boating and a way to store your boat.
There are many things you need to know about trailering your new boat. What kind of towing capacity does your SUV, car or truck have. You can find this info easily in your owners manual.
A lot of standard pickups and SUVs can tow boats up to twenty five feet long but check your owners manual to be sure. Small cars or family sedans aren't really ideal for towing but a very small boat may not be a problem if you have the proper towing setup on your vehicle.
Check your boat owners manual for the dry weight of your boat. This is the weight of the boat without fuel, people or gear. There are places where you can weigh your boat and trailer to get an accurate weight of what you will be towing.
As your boat gets bigger it becomes harder for one person to launch and retrieve it from the water. Smaller boats are much easier for one person to handle. If you have a large boat and are alone, don't be afraid to ask for help as most boaters are more than happy to help you if you need it.
