"Information about buying a boat and boating"
So you think you want to own a boat. If you like being outdoors on the water boating is a great idea. They are more fun than most people can imagine. However boats are also more hassle than most people think they will be. That's why you need all the information this site has to offer.
Personally I've owned 12-14 different ones from small twelve foot aluminum fishing craft to a 20 foot pontoon you could pull tubes or skiers with. I've owned inboards and outboards, fishing boats and fast ones that you could pull three or four skiers.
My suggestions would be to figure out what you want to use it for, who's going to be with you and how much you can afford to spend on a boat. The upfront costs are pretty clear but the cost of ownership does surprise some people at costs or time for maintenance and for just using it.
Boats don't get great gas mileage and the faster your craft goes the more fuel you will burn. This wasn't a consideration for most people until gas went way up. Parts, supplies and repairs are also costly. Don't underestimate your aftermarket costs or you will be very surprised.
If you are new to boating there is a ton of information for you here. Please be sure to read it all and you should have some better idea of what you want in a water craft and what you will be using it for. Being on the water is a ton of fun and can make for a great family experience.
My kids loved it when I'd pull them in the tube or other inflatables. My wife was afraid of being on a boat so I bought a pontoon and she found that to be quite enjoyable. Make sure what your boat is going to be used for the most and that's it's big enough to hold your family comfortably.
Because I used to be an avid fisherman most of mine have been for fishing. I think my favorite was probably my Tracker as it was the first new one I bought. It came with everything I needed to fish and it was one of the first deep V boats Tracker made. I definitely caught a lot of fish out of it.
